McNally Robinson

Apparently, the McNally Robinson location on 8th Ave. downtown is closing because their building has been sold and will probably be turned into 'Yet Another Condo Building' (YACB) or some lame store front selling overpriced shoes or something. This really really really sucks as they were the best large bookstore in town, and really the only good technical bookstore I have been in since the one on 17th Ave closed. They will not be opening up in Calgary again, so we are back to relying on Chapters and Indigo for all our book needs (which means I will be doing a lot of ordering from Amazon).

So for those who need their technical books ordered, Monday is the last day to do so. Too bad the book I want is set to release next Thursday, because now I can't order it.

and the owners of the building, the ones who sold it in the first place, requiring McNally Robinson to move - is McNally Robinson themselves. They chose to sell the building and cash in.

Interesting... I guess I would want to make the cash as well, because they will definitely make more money off selling the building then they will selling books in the near future.

That company does a great job marketing themselves as a great service but they are all about money. The store in Saskatoon routinely charges 20/30 percent over Candian cover price and place stickers over the suggested prices. People buy into the atmosphere and overpay for the books. Check out online sources for your books.
